DUI Traffic Unit

The DUI Traffic Unit was established in October 2008 with two uniformed officers, Cpl. Randall Human and Cpl. Chris Brewer. The DUI Traffic was established with a grant from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The Team partners in the South Carolina Law Enforcement Network Tenth Judicial Circuit to enforce the immediate problem of Driving under the Influence and Aggressive Driving in Anderson and Oconee County. The team patrols in high crash and known complaint areas. The team partners with Anderson and Clemson University to develop educational plans to advise students on traffic safety and driver instruction. Cpl. Randal Human is a certified DUI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Instructor and has obtained the Traffic Safety Officer award from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Cpl. Brewer is currently a certified instructor in the Alive at 25 program and has taught the class in length to reduce the deaths of young people within the Upstate of South Carolina. The Police Department has received Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Awards for 2006, 2007, and 2008 from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety in pursuit of Criminal Interdiction operations. The team issues monthly press statements about their activities to the media and has quarterly meetings with other law enforcement agencies to form multi-jurisdiction enforcement teams.
